As global dynamics shifts, the India-Russia partnership remains a vital pillar of peace and stability in the world
While reiterating its support for India as a permanent member of a reformed UNSC, Russia has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation with New Delhi in bilateral as well as multilateral platforms, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Saturday.
This development took place during the 6th round of India-Russia consultations on UN related issues and the 13th meeting of their Joint Working Group (JWG) on counter terrorism.
At the meeting which took place in Moscow on December 19 and 20, both sides exchanged views on regional and global developments.
They discussed issues pertaining to the UNSC, including its reform. Russia reiterated its support for India as a permanent member of a reformed UNSC.
India-Russia JWG on Counter terrorism
At the Joint Working Group meeting, India and Russia shared their experiences in countering terrorism including cross-border terrorism, extremism and agreed to enhance cooperation to address problems of radicalization as well as terror financing.
They also discussed current terrorist threats at the global and regional level and combating the use of new and emerging technologies for terrorist purposes.
Highlights of the JWG on Counterterrorism
Cross-Border Terrorism: Both sides emphasized the importance of combating cross-border terrorist activities and ensuring regional stability.
Terror Financing: The discussion focused on measures to prevent the financing of terrorist organizations, a critical aspect of global counterterrorism efforts.
Emerging Threats: The use of new and emerging technologies by terrorist groups was highlighted as a growing challenge, requiring innovative solutions and joint action.
At the both meetings, while India was represented by Secretary (West) in the MEA, Tanmaya Lal, Russia was represented by the country’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Vershinin.
Earlier, in the course of his Russia visit, India’s Secretary (West) Tanmaya Lal also held a meeting with Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin and discussed current international and regional issues, in particular, the Ukraine conflict.
