In a remarkable celebration of their long-standing diplomatic ties, India and Romania commemorated 75 years of friendship and cooperation with the release of a joint postal stamp on Tuesday (September 17, 2024). This milestone event highlighted the deep and multifaceted relationship between the two nations, symbolizing their shared history, cultural connections, and collaborative efforts across numerous sectors.
The commemorative stamp was jointly unveiled by India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Minister of Communications and Development of the Northeastern Region Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia, and Ambassador of Romania to India Daniela-Mariana Sezonov Tane. The release of the stamp marked a significant moment in the history of India-Romania relations, underscoring the enduring nature of their diplomatic partnership, which was established in 1948.
Speaking at the stamp release ceremony, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar emphasised the importance of this milestone, noting the shared values and mutual respect that have characterized the relationship between India and Romania for over seven decades. This commemorative stamp symbolizes the rich history of collaboration between the two nations and the bright future that lies ahead as they continue to build on this strong foundation, he said.
Minister Scindia also spoke on the occasion, acknowledging the significance of Romania as a key partner in India’s engagement with Europe. He highlighted that the stamp not only commemorates 75 years of diplomatic relations but also serves as a symbol of the friendship and cooperation that extends across various sectors, including trade, technology, defense, and culture.
Ambassador Sezonov Ţane expressed her pride in the enduring relationship between India and Romania, stating, "This stamp launch illustrates our common will to celebrate our continuously expanding relationship while building on what brings us closer - culture,” she said, adding that it was a testament to past achievements and the aspirations for a more connected and cooperative future.
